By teaching with an emphasis on real world applications, **Applied Basic Mathematics, Second Edition**, offers students a refreshing perspective on basic math! Authors Clark and Brechner open every chapter with an application and close every section with “Apply Your Knowledge” examples. The authors pair this emphasis on applications with learning tools like “Guide Problems and the “Ten Minute Chapter,” resulting in a text that encourages students to relate, reinforce, and review as they learn.

- The
**emphasis on applications**teaches math within the context of students' lives, so they see its relevance and are engaged from the beginning.**Apply Your Knowledge**, the last learning objective in each section, provides students with the extra examples and exercises needed to practice synthesizing and applying what they have learned.**The Numerical Facts of Life**feature, located at the end of every chapter, gives students several real-data-driven exercises related to one real-world application.**Real World Connections boxes**point out interesting real-world applications for students as they read through the text.

- The
**structure of this text**encourages constant**reinforcement and review**, which guides students through the concepts of basic mathematics.**Try-It Exercises**, located after each Example and Solution Strategy, allow students to immediately reinforce what they have just learned. Solutions for all Try-It Exercises are located at the back of the book.**Guide Problems**are set up in a step-by-step format to reinforce the skills needed to succeed in working through the exercises that follow. These are provided for every objective in the exercise sets.- The
**Ten-Minute Chapter**is a chapter summary chart that reviews important concepts and illustrates examples for each concept from the chapter. **Cumulative Skills Review exercises**appear at the end of every section and are labeled with the chapter and objective number where introduced.

**Vocabulary**definitions in the margins provide easy reference when studying.**Learning Tips**in the margins provide suggestions and hints that will be useful to students as they go through the text and do the exercises.

**New and Updated Features**

**Apply Your Knowledge**, a learning objective in every section, has been updated.**Data and photos**are updated to keep this text fresh and relevant for today's students.

**New to the Supplements Package**

**MyMathLab® Enhancements for Clark/Brechner****Increased exercise coverage**gives instructors more homework options than ever before.**Premade homework assignments**are available within the homework manager.**An Interactive English/Spanish glossary**offers definitions of important mathematical terms in both English and Spanish.

**Content Updates**

**Chapter 2**offers an enhanced explanation of what a fraction "is" and also provides a student-friendly rationale for the basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).**Chapter 3**provides enhanced discussion of decimals. In particular, the authors elaborate on converting from fractions to terminating or repeating decimals, and from terminating decimals to fractions.- Many new
**learning tips**and**teaching tips**were incorporated throughout the text, based on student and faculty feedback from the first edition. **All charts and data**throughout the text are updated to reflect the latest data wherever possible.
