Meet Gen Alpha Students

10.00 - 11.15 CEST*
Alpha Kids: Who are they and how can we prepare them for the future?
Speaker: Nina Lauder

Generation Alpha are children born from the year 2010 on. By the end of the 2020s the oldest children from this generation will be growing into adulthood. As teachers, it’s important to understand the characteristics of these modern young learners in order to help guide them on their learning journey.

In this session we will look at how Alpha kids compare to other generations, and we will discuss competencies and skills that can be worked on to encourage motivation and engagement in class while simultaneously preparing our learners for the future.

11.30 - 12.30 CEST*
Helping Alpha Kids Rise and Shine
Speaker: Nina Lauder

As teachers, it’s important to take the time to understand what makes Alpha kids tick to engage and motivate them as much as possible in their learning process. In this session we will look at practical ideas which can help meet the needs of this generation and we will discuss how to develop social skills and collaborative learning in class.

We will also investigate how we can develop skills in our ELT lessons to prepare our learners for the upcoming challenges they may face in the future. The better we understand Generation Alpha, the easier it will be to help them rise and shine in their lives.

A Confident Adult Learner

How can technology support adults in developing their language confidence?

10.00 - 11.15 CEST*
What lies ahead? Language learning and teaching in 2030 and beyond
Speaker: Mike Mayor

From Grammar-Translation to Audio-Visual to Communicative – language learning, teaching and assessment has always been an evolving discipline. But it is probably not an over-statement to say that the events of recent years have accelerated change in a way that no one could have imagined. The pandemic has forced us to re-think how we teach and learn – and what we teach and learn. Necessity forced many to embrace new digital technologies and all the signs suggest that many of the changes that we had to make are now here to stay.

So, what will language teaching and learning look like in 2030 and beyond? How will new technologies such as AR, VR and ChatGPT impact teachers and learners? What role will AI play? This session will address these questions and outline what is Pearson doing to support teachers and learners today and in the future.

11.30 - 12.30 CEST*
Helping learners to Speak Out with confidence
Speaker: Lindsay Warwick

Speaking confidently and fluently is the aim of many learners of English. In this session, we'll consider the principles behind effective speaking lessons and look at ways in which the new edition of Speakout embraces those principles, scaffolds speaking lessons, builds learner confidence, provides plenty of practice and develops fluency in speaking lessons.

We'll also look at opportunities that Speakout provides for speaking practice outside the classroom with its innovative tools, and consider how we can integrate use of these in our courses. We'll try out activities along the way.

12.45 - 13.45 CEST*
And how about your rate of return on investment?
Speaker: Anna Kolbuszewska

Ask any Talent Manager (formerly known as HR managers) and they will tell you that when it comes to language training, what they expect is ready-made solutions with built-in accountability for results. Language training is an investment, so it is only logical that return on this investment (ROI) is going to make its way into the discussion and will affect the choice of language services provider.

When your students are working on improving their English language skills in order to enhance their future employability, they are also looking for a decent return on their investment of time and money spent on training.

In this session we will examine how the needs of our corporate clients, as well as those from the open market, can be successfully met and how their ROI rate can be secured using ready-to-use training and assessment tools.

A Confident Teen Learner

Why should we bring visible thinking into play in teaching teens?

10.00 - 11.15 CEST*
Age of Opportunity – from a jaded teenager to a master thinker
Speaker: Magdalena Kania

Thinking is one of the most powerful forces for learning, growing and igniting change. Nowadays, in a time of exponential change, thinking seems to be ‘a survival skill’ more than ever.

In this session I will discuss Visible Thinking - a flexible and systematic research-based conceptual framework, which enriches classroom learning in the content areas and fosters students’ intellectual development.

I will share some insights, practical applications of thinking routines in teaching, and tried-and-tested ways to make learning unfold while your students become more thoughtful, inquisitive and confident.

11.30 - 12.30 CEST*
Helping your teenage students to organise and present their ideas confidently using Visible Thinking activities
Speaker: Liz Beer

As teens teachers, we are always striving to find teaching methods that fully engage our students and that are fun and memorable. One of the techniques we can use in class is employing ‘visible thinking’ activities.

This involves using certain strategies which deepen content learning and develop students' thinking skills by describing, analysing and wondering. All these skills are needed in our students’ future lives to make them feel confident. Please join this session to find out more about visible thinking and how we can use it in class.
